Schweitzer Scholarship for Skilled Trades

Schweitzer Scholarship for Skilled Trades

Drew Schweitzer created the Schweitzer Scholarship for Skilled Trades in honor of his father, J. Chris Schweitzer. Chris served with many charitable organizations in the Battle Creek community, the Art Center of Battle Creek and the local chapter of the American Diabetes Association. He sat on leadership boards for the United Way of Greater Battle Creek, Battle Creek Unlimited and Goodwill Industries.

A special tribute from the State of Michigan, signed by Governor Jennifer Granholm, State Senator Mark Schauer, Representative Mike Nofs and Representative Lorence Wenke, states that J. Chris Schweitzer was a dedicated public servant and caring person who enriched many lives. Helping others was one of his well-established traits. Chris will always be remembered as a shining example of hard work, dedication, and commitment to his career, his family and his state.

Impact

Chris and his family have built a successful construction company, Schweitzer, Inc., operating in and around the city of Battle Creek since the 1960s. The company has led many construction projects including the Helen Branch of Willard Public Library, Michigan National Bank building in downtown Battle Creek, the city of Battle Creek Police Department, many projects at Kellogg Community College as as the Kellogg Company. The scholarship was developed to support students going into Skilled Trades.
