Lewis and Alta Weimer Family Memorial Scholarship
Lewis Weimer was born in Tekonsha; he was a farmer in Fredonia Township, later operating a dairy and grain farm in Emmett Township. The recipient of the Michigan State Farmer of the Year Award in 1963, he retired in 1975 and move to Gull Lake.
Alta Weimer was born in Marshall; she worked tirelessly alongside Lewis, growing their family farm to a successful 372 acre dairy farm. Alta was also a Vanda Beauty Counselor and Regional Manager.
Both Lewis and Alta were advocates for education; Lewis served on the Board of Education of the Sandstone School (3 years) and the Harper Creek Community Schools Board of Education (6 years.) Alta was very active with Harper Creek Community Schools PTA and Band Boosters. They would have loved to continue their schooling, but a lack of resources limited their opportunities.
Lewis and Alta are survived by their children: Norma and David Sly, Irma and Thomas Dunton, Alma Weimer, Kenneth and Debra Weimer.
Impact
Lewis and Alta’s children created this scholarship in honor of their parents, in order to create opportunities for others to realize their potential.
